Authentic Flavored Red Palm Curry Sauce

{AIP, Paleo, Low-FODMAP, Coconut-free, Low carb/Ketogenic}

Bold Southeast Asian flavors, detoxifying herbs, and a supplemental dose of Vitamin E from red palm oil make this recipe a saucy + delicious way to get nourished!

This authentic flavored curry sauce pairs wonderfully with white fish, and features Vitamin E rich red palm oil in place of traditional coconut fats. Red palm oil is superior sauce of skin softening Vitamin E but for a long time it’s unique flavor challenged me.

This recipe is a perfect way to introduce this nutrient dense oil as well a great option for a flavorful coconut-free curry. An abundance fresh herbs and spicy grated ginger provide big flavor with a kick, so there’s need for chilis or garlic making this Asian inspired sauce both AIP and low-FODMAP friendly.

  Ingredients: (serves 2)

  • 1 bunch cilantro including stems, chopped
  • 1/2 cup chopped Chinese chives or green onion greens
  • 2 tablespoons red palm oil
  • 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
  • 1/4 cup mashed pumpkin (optional, omit if following a strict low-FODMAP or ketogenic diet)
  • 1/2 cup bone stock
  • 1 teaspoon fish sauce
  • 1/8 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon honey (or coconut sugar if very FODMAP sensitive)
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice + wedges for serving


  1. Heat the palm oil in a wok or skillet over medium heat
  2. Add the chopped cilantro and chives, sautéed for 7 minutes
  3. Add the grated ginger (I use a zester/microplane for this) and sauté an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the greens are soft
  4. Add the bone stock (or water) to keep the sauce moist as it cooks and stir often
  5. Add the pumpkin, fish sauce, lime juice and honey
  6. Stir until well incorporated, taste, and add the additional salt if desired
  7. Cook a couple more minutes then remove from heat and serve over cooked white fish along with lime wedges. Include steamed vegetables and rice (a Paleo version or regular white rice) for a complete meal.
  8. Visualize being nourished at the cellular level by this wonderful food and dig in!

Note: This sauce can be frozen in cubes for later.

Meal Inspiration:

This sauce is perfect served over seafood and can also be used to a flavorful kick to stir fried or steamed vegetables. Because you can freeze it, having some on hand is a great way to spice up a quick fix meal. Just add in a few cubes while heating or cooking your ingredients to melt the sauce and re-awaken it’s aromatics.
